There are two safe and effective ways to perform buttock augmentation surgery: Brazilian butt lift in which fat grafts are injected to reshape the area, and butt implant in which a synthetic prosthesis is used to augment one’s derriere.
Brazilian Butt Lift
The results of Brazilian butt lift are supposed to last a lifetime or at least 10 years. But to achieve a near permanent outcome it is important for the new blood supply to form within and around fat grafts.
Dr. Tarick Smaili, one of the leading Los Angeles plastic surgeons, says the results obtained between one and three months are most likely to be permanent. Nevertheless, the surrounding tissue absorbs a small percentage of fat injections, thus a slight over-correction is a common practice, he further explains.
A good blood supply is needed for the long-term survival of fat grafts, thus correct injection of fat cells plays a crucial role. The general rule of thumb, according to Dr. Smaili, is to inject them at a varying level and with minute spaces between them so that blood vessels can form and flourish within and around them.
Other variables that affect the survival rate of fat grafts include manner of harvesting, i.e., gentle liposuction is imperative while collecting them, purification to separate any contamination, and correct postop care that encourages new blood vessels to form around the microinjections of fat.
The rule of thumb is to avoid prolonged sitting for at least three weeks to make sure the grafts will not shift or “die” due to the excessive pressure or compression.
Buttock Implant Surgery
The butt implants sold in the US are made of soft but highly cohesive silicone polymer (i.e., solid or form stable), so they do not leak unlike those used in breast implants. For this reason, under best circumstances the surgery’s results are near permanent.
Despite their solid silicone makeup, today’s buttock implants have a “squishy” natural feel but nonetheless slightly firmer, almost resembling the gluteal muscle of someone who works out a lot.
Butt implants can remain for the duration of the patient’s life, and the only time they should be removed and/or replaced is when they rotate, become infected, or form thick internal scar tissue called capsular contracture.
Because infection is linked to high reoperation rate, many surgeons recommend the use of antibiotics. Other ways to minimize the risk include the use of sterile equipment and facility at the time of surgery, proper wound closure, and correct postop care.
Fans not only covet the lifestyle and talents of their celebrity idols. Sometimes, they are seeking cosmetic plastic surgery in an attempt to acquire the same “famous” look, or at least a certain physical trait, of their favorite celebs.
According to a survey conducted by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, member surgeons reported a 13 percent increase in celebrity-inspired procedures. This “trend” is expected to continue due to media influence and the public’s growing acceptance of plastic surgery.
Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Tarick Smaili says that plastic surgery has its own limits because the post-op appearance largely depends on the patient’s underlying anatomy such as skin quality, facial structure, pre-existing breast size and shape, and “innate” body shape.
“It is imperative to have realistic goals and expectations from cosmetic plastic surgery. Being an elective procedure, its only purpose is to elicit a smile from patients,” says Dr. Smaili.
According to anecdotal reports, Brad Pitt, Natalie Portman, Kate Middleton, and Jennifer Lawrence’s nose is the most popular request of patients seeking rhinoplasty, or colloquially referred to as nose job.
However, one survey conducted by Belgian plastic surgeons has found that one in three people requesting for rhinoplasty exhibit signs of body dysmorphic disorder, a health condition wherein a person has excessive preoccupation with her minor or imaginary flaws, preventing her to “function” normally.
This finding, which has also been shown by previous studies, warrants a stricter patient selection prior to rhinoplasty, as suggested by the leading Los Angeles plastic surgeon.
Meanwhile, Beyonce and Kim Kardashian’s derriere has been the most mentioned “inspiration” of women seeking Brazilian butt lift, a procedure that injects the patient’s own “excess” fat to augment and reshape her buttocks. This technique is deemed significantly safer than using butt silicone implants.
In terms of the most requested lips, Christina Aguilera, Angelina Jolie, and Scarlet Johansson are the most mentioned celebrities because of their puckers, which could be replicated through dermal filler injection, fat transfer, and lip implants.
Male patients who have been inspired by their favorite celebrities to undergo facial plastic surgery, meanwhile, often mention the names of Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Pattinson, Johnny Depp, and Will Smith.
According to a 2013 survey conducted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 15.1 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the US, with women accounting for about 87 percent of the total treatments.
Pop diva Janet Jackson allegedly had a facelift surgery in an attempt to turn back the clock, according to showbiz reports. But instead of looking younger, the star’s cheeks look unusually puffier, while the lateral side of her face appears overly tight and her eyebrows look too arched.
In a recent Vogue fashion event held in Dubai, the star was photographed with her barely recognizable face, shocking paparazzis and fans alike. However, some celebrity plastic surgeons have been quick to point out that it could be a less invasive form of cosmetic enhancement such as Botox and dermal fillers.
Meanwhile, others think that it could be the works of bad make-up, natural effects of aging that is gradually catching up with her face, or weight gain. Or probably a combination of these factors, as some would allege.
Over the past several years, the 48-year-old pop diva’s appearance has changed dramatically, which many experts attributed to a series of plastic surgery that involved breast augmentation, liposuction, countless of rhinoplasties or nose jobs, and minimally invasive forms of facelift. Some media reports have also alleged that the star regularly receives Botox and dermal fillers to keep her wrinkles at bay.
The singer-dancer has never denied some of her plastic surgeries and even admitted in a previous interview that at the age of 16 she had a nose job.
Aside from a series of plastic surgery, the star has also been hounded by controversies about her yoyo weight loss. Over the years, people have been perplexed by her ability to get a slender waist and well-toned abs in no time before gaining a significant amount of weight—a cycle she couldn’t break.
Hollywood bigwig Renee Zellweger, 45, looks way different now from her Bridget Jones’s look that some fans and showbiz bloggers were quick to speculate that she had a series of facial plastic surgery right before attending Elle’s 21st Annual Women in Hollywood Awards that was held a few weeks ago.
The plump cheeks that were once her signature look are nowhere to be found, her eyes seem to appear wider, and her forehead looks a bit higher, prompting some celebrity plastic surgery experts to conclude that she had a brow lift surgery alongside some minor facelift and probably Botox injections.
Some doctors believe the actress had a poorly done brow lift because it resulted in a forehead that appears higher, while her eyebrows, which were once arching, now looks too straight and unnatural. However, some experts have speculated that too much Botox injection could also be the culprit.
Dr. Tarick Smaili, a leading LA plastic surgeon who has no personal connection with the star, says that brow lift must only be done in a conservative manner—i.e., minimal skin resection and pulling—to achieve results that look natural and to preserve the natural height of the forehead and the normal appearance of hairline and ears.
But other people believe that the actress’ new look could be a combination of the natural aging process and makeup trick, rather than extensive facial plastic surgery.
Meanwhile, the Chicago actress was quick to dismiss rumors of her plastic surgery as nothing but rumors, attributing her new appearance to her healthier lifestyle and more positive outlook in life.
In her past interviews, the actress had also denied reports suggesting that she had an eating disorder and called these rumors as “very unfair and disappointing.”
A recent article published by US’ OK! Magazine has reported that singer and former reality TV star Jessica Simpson is planning to undergo breast reduction surgery after losing more than 50 pounds before her wedding in July.
According to the magazine’s purported source, the celebrity is having difficulty moving around and carrying her kids because of her breasts that are too large relative to her now smaller frame.
In the past, the 34-year-old singer was constantly criticized for her weight that fluctuated significantly, prompting showbiz reporters to assume that she was suffering from eating disorder and poor body image. But in a recent interview, she claimed that she is becoming more “comfortable in her skin” and that the public’s unrealistic expectations are no longer her priorities.
Three years ago, Jessica had also been hounded by rumors alleging that she was planning to undergo a breast reduction surgery, which she later denied through a Tweet message.
“Been getting lots of questions about my breast reduction..not to worry..I love my boobies..They aren’t going anywhere,” the mother of two said in a statement.
In a 2009 interview with GQ magazine, Jessica’s manager and dad Joe Simpson said her daughter had a “double D cup,” adding that she “never tries to be sexy because she is just sexy.”
In a bizarre interview, Joe was also quoted saying: “If you put her [Jessica] in a T-shirt or in a bustier, she is sexy in both.”
Former child actress Selena Gomez has been rumored to have breast augmentation surgery after photos of her circulated the Internet showing her seemingly curvier figure, with some celebrity plastic surgeons even concluding that the rumors are most likely true.
While showbiz grapevine and some celebrity surgeons keep on claiming that the young star had the surgery fairly recently, her representative is adamant that she did not have any surgical enhancement.
But based on Selena’s recent photos, experts believe that the excessive fullness in her upper breast poles is a dead giveaway that she has had a breast surgery.
In most cases, the excess fullness in the upper aspect of the breasts will resolve on its own—a process that can take up to six months—because it really takes time for the implants to drop a bit and settle into a more natural position.
Some celebrity plastic surgeons have also speculated that the star could have chosen a breast implant size around 300 cubic centimeter that resulted in a full C cup, a good choice if one likes to avoid sagging or bottoming out, palpability, and visible rippling.
With a conservative implant size, experts have also lauded the former child star’s choice because it will not only give her a “natural look” but also help her maintain her “sweet and pretty” image.
Choosing a conservative implant size also favors Selena (in case that the rumors are all true) because of her small frame that could be easily overwhelmed by breast implants larger than 400 cc.
In the past, Selena was quoted saying that would like to have breast implants to achieve a curvier appearance.
